HMP Styal
HMP Styal is one of the largest female prisons in the UK with over 450 inmates.
Opened in 1962, it occupies some of the "Styal Cottages" accomodation and plus purpose built buildings just off Styal Road between the village centre and Worms Hill.
Since 1983 young offenders have been housed at the prison with women on remand housed in a new wing since 1999.
